This walk celebrates the securing of the walking route through St Anne's Woods as a Public Right Of Way. This medieval route between Keynsham, St Anne's Well and Barton Hill was used by packhorses and pilgrims for centuries. This ended in 1884 when James Sinnott, a solicitor, bought the wood, put locks at one entrance and stopped the ferry boar service. The Bristol and District Footpath Preservation Society, led by the Bishop of Bath & Wells, grappled with the problem for 6 years. After a legal battle, the courts announced victory in 1891.
