Moderate 14 miles / 22.5 km
This is a linear walk following the picturesque Esk Valley. Leaving Castleton Moor Station we follow the path to Danby, crossing the railway line and passing The Moors National Park Centre. From here we cross fields and head up a steep track to the moor. If the weather is kind, we'll stop here for lunch & enjoy the views. Afterwards we'll follow the road gently uphill to Danby Beacon, which has views across to Scaling Dam and the coast, and then walk along a track towards Lealholm. From there, we walk alongside the river Esk to Glaisdale, home to the romantic Beggar's Bridge & then head into woodland towards Egton Bridge, crossing fords and stepping stones. The final couple of miles takes us along the toll road track and back to Grosmont, where we can indulge in cakes in the tea room, a drink at the pub or just enjoy an ice-cream on the platform and watch the steam trains.
At Grosmont Station where we will catch the 10:35 train, getting off at Castleton Moor. Tickets are £5 single - we're walking back!
