Walk cancelled due to forecast of severe weather, we hope to re-schedule this walk during the summer.
Details of the walk are as follows:
A linear walk from Balerno to Slateford along the Water of Leith – (option to continue to Leith)
Distance: Circa 5.5 miles (option adds 7.5 miles – a diversion from the path between Sunbury Bridge and the steps at Dean Path due to a landslip)
Walk time: 2.5hours (option adds 4 hours)
Grade: C (option C+)

It is recommended to travel to the start of the walk by public transport. Train from Tweedbank at 07:59 should arrive in Edinburgh Waverley at 08:56, then a 5 minute walk to the bus stop on Princess Street to catch the 09:14 No. 44 bus to Balerno High School to arrive at 09:55. If the Tweedbank train is delayed the next bus is 09:25 – roughly they are every 10 mins. The No. 44 bus can then be picked up at Slateford for the return journey to Edinburgh.
The walk follows The Water of Leith walkway from Balerno to the visitor centre at Slateford where there is a small café selling snacks. The Water of Leith Visitor Centre is situated in a renovated schoolhouse by the Water of Leith at Lanark Road in Slateford.
