(Estimated finish time: 16:15)
Moderate 13 miles / 20.9 km
An early start and a good long walk in the beautiful and varied Kent Contryside to help burn off some calories before the Christmas indulgences.
On this walk we will walk through woodland, visit a couple of country parks, stride along some winding lanes, climb some hills, and do a couple of urban stretches but at all times we will never be very far from either the A21 or the London / Hastings railway line. We will walk north from High Brooms station along the Southborough valley, taking in the imposing but hidden railway viaduct en-route to the outskirts of Tonbridge. We will then head east through the well-kept Summerhill grounds towards Tudeley before turning south and walking to Pembury through old Pembury village and the old St Peters church yard.
We will stop for lunch in the village - I have provisionally booked a table at the Black Horse for us - please let me know if you would like to dine here so I can finalise numbers. The morning section is approximately 8 miles and all being well, we should arrive here at around 12.30 - 1pm. Other lunch options are the local chip shop (next door to the pub and it maybe open on a Sunday), a picnic on the village green nearby or the Camden Arms which is opposite the Black Horse and also serves food.
After lunch we will head back towards Tunbridge Wells taking a cross country route through Bayhall farm followed by a shallow climb which is rewarded by some great views in all directions from the top of High Woods Lane. The final part of the walk takes in the beautiful Dunorlan Park before a short section on the road to take us back to the station. I hope to arrive back at about 3.30 - 4pm as it will be getting dark at this time.
Please check weekly group e-mails & Meetup website for any last-minute information on this walk.
Meet outside railway station at 9.00 - we will be starting promptly so please don't be late
