Beacons' Way to Fan Frynach
Sunday, 7 April 2019
Meeting time: 9:00
Start time: 10:00
(Estimated finish time: 16:00)
Strenuous 7.5 miles / 12 km
This is a climb from the Craig Cerrig Gleisiad Nature Reserve to Fan Frynych. The walk goes into the cwm below Craig Cerrig Gleisiad. The imposing walls to the south provide an exceptional habitat for many rare plants. There will be a gentle climb to the north west to a saddle and a descent west to meet Sarn Helen. After an hour and a half along the Roman Road, walkers will come into Cwm Du. This is another beautiful valley, hidden from the main routes and designated as a nature reserve. After lunch by the stream, there will be a very stiff climb up the valley side to the summit of Fan Frynych. This will be taken slowly. The route finishes by descending quite gently into Craig Cerrig Gleisiad back to the cars.
Cowbridge Town Hall Car Park not Cowbridge Cattle Market.

The walk starts from the lay-by on the left of the A470 beyond Storey Arms : GR SO 972 223. This is after all the hairpin bends and before the Youth Hostel. There is plenty of parking space. The plan is to be there at 9.45am for a prompt 10am start. Try both landline and mobile if you wish to contact Helen as the mobile signal is poor at her house.
