Start time: 9:00
(Estimated finish time: 17:00)
Moderate 13 miles / 20.9 km
We will catch the 09:18 train from Malvern link to Ledbury (Fare quoted as £5.30 single on The Trainline), as this is a linear walk. From the station it is a short walk into Ledbury Centre, where there is the opportunity to stop for a quick coffee/ loo break if anyone wishes, before we head out via the Eastnor Estate to pick up the Malvern Hills and start our walk back towards Malvern Link. There are a couple of other places for refreshments and loo stops along the route.
We will pass Midsummer Hill, Swinyard Hill and walk over Hangman’s Hill, Broad Down, Herefordshire Beacon, Black Hill, Pinnacle Hill, Jubilee Hill, Perseverance Hill, Summer Hill, Worcestershire Beacon, Sugarloaf Hill, North Hill, before descending back down to Malvern Link.
On a clear day there are some spectacular views, but given the time of year please ensure you bring appropriate clothing as we will be on exposed ridges for a fair percentage of the day. I did a recce of the route on 2nd December and it was pretty muddy in some of the wooded sections. Although graded as moderate, there is some steep ascent and decent and we will need to me moving at a reasonable fast pace all day, given the limited daylight hours available.
Please arrive in plenty of time to catch the 9:18 train. If you are late we can't wait.
Parking is at Malvern Link Train Station and appears to be £1 at weekends. There is also on street parking in the immediate area.
