Moderate 6.5 miles / 10.5 km
Start at car park next to ruins of Newbyres Castle. Descend Main Street and head to Scotland’s first Gunpowder Mill. Cross A7 to Gore Glen following Gore Water to Trotter’s Bridge. Skirt around the edges of Gorebridge to climb to Common Wood. Descend using farm tracks and quiet roads. Gaiters advised and walking poles optional.
