This walk explores the Easternmost of the Chiltern Hills, with a morning hike to Pegsdon Hills and back, followed by an optional extension to Darleyhall and Tea Green.
Both walks start and finish in the village of Great Offley. The morning seven-mile route winds through undulating countryside around Little Offley and Wellbury, before a trek up Deacon Hill. Here we can enjoy excellent views while we stop for a snack after the short but steep hill climb. Chocolate eggs optional! We then head across the Pegsdon Hills nature reserve and Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, dipping into its deep coombes and rising up its grassy slopes before returning via the former racecourse of Lilley Hoo.
Those who like a longer walk can stay after lunch for a further eight miles through farmland and hamlets around Lilley Bottom. We’ll pass into valleys and over wooded hills typical of the pleasant Chilterns landscape, and can stop for a drink at The Fox at Darleyhall (ideally located close to Luton Airport for the benefit of any plane-spotters!).
After the walk there’s a further chance of a drink at The Green Man in Great Offley before heading home.
