A stunning (moderate) walks through some of the most unspoilt countryside in England; thie countryside of Dorset, is known all over the world as the backdrop to the literature of Thomas Hardy, which, this walk marks.
The walk takes us from Dorchester via the Roman Villa, Hangmans Cottage and the river behind the old prison out across the meadows to Puddletown Forest via the Hardy Way and Lower Bockhampton.
After navigating Puddletown Forest, and hopefully not getting lost, we pass Hardy's cottage and on to the visitor centre for the lunch break.
After lunch we return to Dorchester via Kingston Maurward, Stinsford (where Hardy's heart is buried), Fordington, Brewery Square and back to our start point.
Top O'Town long stay car park (this was free on Sunday but a charge may have been introduced). Please note 10.00 start time.
There are toilets at the start, at the Hardy visitor centre (lunch) and at the end.
