Leisurely 3.3 miles / 5.3 km
From Exeter Arena cp, walk out to the entrance and turn right along Summer Lane; cross the main road (Beacon Heath) and into Pinwood Lane, after a few yards turn right into a bridleway (also called Pinwood Lane). After about a ½ mile go left at a T junction just after you have crossed the Pin Brook. This left track (Bridleway 12) will take you to a T junction (turn left), a red “no entry” sign (turn right) and another T junction (turn left) finally to a T junction with Cheynegate Lane (just before the junction with Church Hill). Turn right along Cheynegate Lane; after ¼ mile turn left for 200 yards, then turn right through a gate. Keep right in the field following a footpath which eventually gives excellent views of Exeter and the Estuary down to Exmouth spit and the sea just over 10 miles away. This footpath (bridleway 51) takes you down to a gravelled path and Beacon Heath. Cross the main road, turn right then take a footpath left across Eastern Field playing fields, turning right just before the railway to find the car park at Exeter Arena.
