Being a new town, Telford is only a little over 50 years old but the communities within it have a rich heritage based on the East Shropshire Coalfield. This walk passes a variety of features, including a former canal, some former railways and tramways, various pit mounds and iron works. It follows parts of seven recognised trails, passing through a World Heritage Site and three Local Nature Reserves.
The most recently designated of the seven trails is the Telford T50 Mile Trail, devised by local volunteers in 2018 to mark the 50th anniversary of Telford's designation.
Much of the walk is along tarmac or gravel surfaces but there are woodlands and other paths that can be muddy and some steep slopes for which walking poles may be useful.
There will be a slightly longer than usual lunch stop at Ironbridge.
