Leisurely 6.5 miles / 10.5 km
A really interesting walk starting from St Andrew and St Mary church on the edge of the village. Crossing over into Woodhall Park, we make our way to the weir and then follow the River Beane, a really attractive chalk stream tributary of the River Lea. Exploring the park and looking across to the Heath Mount school, we return to the church and then wind our way around the back of Watton into the beautiful Jubilee Woods, planted by the Woodhall Estate as a conservation area at the time of the Diamond Jubilee in 2012.
Park on the road just south of the mini roundabout close to the church.
This is a circular walk
Please note that there is one ladder-stile to navigate along the walk (see photo).
Be aware of the road works on the A602 close to Watton at Stone and allow a few extra minutes to arrive on time for the walk. Check on whether these roadworks might affect your journey through this link:
