The third of four available days walking in and around the area of Porlock in Somerset. Please see separate Porlock event section of the 4050s walks page for fuller details.
All participants are responsible for their own health and fitness to undertake this walk / programme. Our group walks at a fairly brisk pace, so it’s important you are used to walking hilly terrain and over these distances. Please contact us in advance if you have any concerns.
This is a linear walk of a stretching section of the SWCP, which also includes the highest point on the entire path at Great Hangman (318 metres) via Watermouth Castle, Combe Martin Bay and Heddon’s Mouth, before turning briefly inland to our welcome end point at the Hunters Inn up the Heddon valley.
From Porlock’s meet point we have a 40 min drive (via shared transport) to drop vehicles at Hunters Inn, followed by a 30 min drive on to our start point at Hele Bay on the SWCP. We begin our walk just above Hele, returning ultimately to Hunters Inn.
From Porlock, volunteer drivers (at an appropriate agreed cost for passengers) ferry participants to our start point at Hele Bay. Sufficient vehicles drop off first at Hunters Inn (NT Car Park), before the rest take on those drivers/passengers to our start point. After completing the walk we return to Hele Bay to pick up the remaining vehicles and return to Porlock.
Note: There is currently no timely public transport to complete this route.
The finish time quoted above is the expected arrival time at Hunters Inn. This does not allow for return travel time to Porlock.
If you have any queries please contact us on the mobile numbers provided.
The meet point is Porlock Village Hall Car Park 30 metres up the road from the Top Ship.
