Introductory Walk - Dalgety Bay to Braefoot Point circular.

Saturday, 28 May 2022

Start time: 10:00
(Estimated finish time: 13:00)

Leisurely 4.5 miles / 7.2 km

Group Dalgety Bay & District

Do ‘you like pina coladas and getting caught in the rain’?  Well, here at Dalgety Bay Ramblers we prefer coffee breaks and fine weather!  But we take what we get and are a diverse bunch who enjoy a wide range of things: from plants and wildlife to beautiful scenery and interesting buildings.  If you like the sound of any of that, while walking and chatting, come and join us on an Introductory Walk.

After meeting and introductions we will head for the Coastal Path at a leisurely pace to enjoy the beautiful panoramas across the Firth of Forth to the Edinburgh skyline.  We will pass the historic ruin of St Bridget’s Kirk as we consider its link with Inchcolm Island (which we will get a good view of later on).

Onwards, then, along a constructed path until we reach Braefoot woods.  We will walk uphill through the woods alongside the perimeter fence of Braefoot Terminal, taking full advantage of the views from the highest point before descending to discover the old pier at Braefoot Point.

Let’s stop here to enjoy the snack and drink that we have brought with us before exploring the wartime fortifications that we discover in the woodland and along the coast.

Heading back, then, we will make our way to the Avenue, which was the old entrance/driveway to the Donibristle Estate.  It’s then an easy walk back towards Dalgety Bay where we will head to Hugo’s for the refreshment of our choice and a chance to talk about our joint experience.
