Start time: 10:00
(Estimated finish time: 15:00)
Moderate 9.3 miles / 15 km
Starting from Rouncil Lane, we head north to the moat of Kenilworth castle, then proceed to the Abbey Fields recreation area (toilets and coffee stop). From there, we head south up the hill to traverse Kenilworth via a string of little-known back alleys on the way to St John's Street, where we head east through more alleyways to reach Glasshouse Lane and Rocky Lane. Turning south, we follow this ancient sunken lane to reach the bijou village of Ashow, where we hope to partake of our luncheons in the tranquil churchyard, a stone's throw from the softly flowing river Avon. Resuming our labours, we proceed across fields to 18th-century Blackdown Mill (which now harbours eight bedrooms and a private cinema and was once rumoured to be on the shopping list of Daniel Craig at £5 million). From here we follow an attractive woodland path to Leek Wootton, and proceed across the golf course (balls ahoy!) to arrive, after more woodland, back at the parking place.
