Walk details

Starting from Bramley Rail Station, we head out of the village passing through Bramley Frith wood, to pick up the Brenda Parker Way, which takes us across pleasant fields and along some quiet country lanes to Calleva Atrebatum.

Calleva Atrebatum (“Calleva of the Atrebates”) was an Iron Age settlement, as capital of the Atrebates tribe. It then became a walled town in the Roman province of Britannia at a major crossroads in the Roman roads of Britain.

We will have lunch at the remains of the Calleva Atrebatum Amphitheatre, before walking along the walls towards modern day Silchester, where we will take refershement at the Calleva Arms.

After the Calleva Arms we will pass through the outskirts of Pamber Forest, before heading back across the fields towards Bramley and then back through Bramley Frith wood towards the start point. If there is a significant wait until the next train, walkers can find refreshment at the Bramley Inn.
