Lea Valley Walk 1: Leagrave to Harpenden (7 miles or 12 miles - Moderate, Booking Required)

Sunday, 12 June 2022

Meeting time: 10:05
Start time: 10:45
(Estimated finish time: 16:00)

Moderate 12 miles / 19.3 km

Group Stag Walkers

Part 1 of our plan to walk the complete Lea Valley Walk: 50 miles following the River Lea from Luton to London. Join us for any or all of these!

This walk is limited to 20 people including the leader.

We begin the trail starting from Leagrave Station. We walk to find the source of the River Lea at Leagrave Common then follow the river through parkland to Wardown Park. Next we walk past Luton town centre before rejoining the River Lea, stopping for packed lunch at Manor Road Park.

We continue on the edge of Luton Hoo estate to Luton Airport Parkway Station. We head onto the Upper Lea Valley Walk along a cycle path past the Chiltern Green railway viaduct down to Batford Springs Nature Reserve, finishing uphill to Harpenden Station.

If people would like a shorter walk they can drop out at Luton Airport Parkway after 7 miles.

This walk is moderate-grade due to distance but the terrain is easy-going: mostly flat, on pavements and cycle paths and through parks. Comfortable walking shoes or trainers are recommended.

Please note this is a linear walk from Leagrave station to Harpenden station. We recommend driving to the walk end point and getting the train to the start point: train time departing Harpenden at 10.21 arriving at Leagrave 10.35.

Booking your place: This walk has a limited capacity. If you would like to join, you MUST book in advance using the Stag Walkers Meetup group - see Notes for how to book & what to bring. If you are unable to attend, please cancel your booking so that someone else can take your place. Please DO NOT turn up for a walk without booking, as places are limited. Unless you opt in to further communications, we will only use contact information you provide to get in touch about the walk.

Please car-share if possible. Optional meeting point for car-share: Queen Mother Theatre, Woodside, Walsworth Road, Hitchin SG4 9SP. To offer a lift or ask for one from a fellow walker, please use the Meetup event page.

Use our Meetup group to book your place on the walk: https://www.meetup.com/StagWalkers/

Book your place by clicking the ‘Attend’ button when RSVPs are open. RSVPs open 6pm two weeks before the walk takes place. If the walk is full, click ‘join waitlist’ and you will be added if a place becomes available.

Please:

DO NOT book onto a walk unless you are pretty sure you will be able to make it.

UPDATE YOUR RSVP. We understand ‘life happens’ so if you need to change your RSVP please do this at least 24 hours before the walk and before booking closes to enable someone else to take your place.

DON’T NO-SHOW on the day unless it is absolutely unavoidable (we do understand ‘life happens’) because it prevents others from enjoying a walk when we are limited in the number of spaces.

*TAKE NOTE that if you no-show and/or cancel after the booking closing deadline three times, without extenuating circumstances, we will decline further bookings from you for a period of six weeks.*

Bring a packed lunch / snacks and drinks, and optionally a basic first aid kit, hand sanitiser and face covering.

When travelling to and from the walk, follow the latest advice from government and transport operators to keep yourself and others safe.
