Strenuous 8 miles / 12.9 km
Somewhat isolated from the surrounding ranges, Moel Siabod is a mountain of contrasts. Seen from Capel Curig it stands proudly in a rocky ridge with a pointed summit; to the west it stretches out in a long and gentle grassy slope. While there are many satisfying ways to the top, it is the route on the SE ridge of Daear Ddu which we will follow today. Setting out from Dolwyddelan, we first take footpaths and forest tracks to Llyn y Foel, before tackling the ridge, which involves some easy scrambling. From the 872 metre summit, there are wonderful views across into the Snowdon Horseshoe and to the nearby Glyders. The return is by the same route.
