Moderate 10.3 miles / 16.6 km
Please meet at Overton Hill on the A4 about five miles west of Marlborough – OS Explorer Map 157, grid reference SU118681. Parking is available either in the car park to the north of the A4 or in the long layby on the south side, immediately opposite the car park. This walk through the rolling Wiltshire countryside explores the UNESCO World Heritage site of Avebury, as well as the downs to the south. We begin by following a permissive footpath from The Sanctuary at Overton Hill and along West Kennet Stone Avenue to Avebury. We then head for Beckhampton via Avebury Trusloe and Longstones Cove, before making the steady ascent to the top of the downs. Here we join the Wansdyke Path for a while, returning to Overton Hill via the White Horse Trail, Harestone Down and East Kennett. There are beautiful views throughout. Please bring sufficient food and drink to last the day. Please note there is a limit of 15 people on this walk, so booking will be necessary.
This is a circular walk
