Dog friendly evening walk around Linn Park

Thursday, 30 June 2022

Start time: 18:30
(Estimated finish time: 20:15)

Easy 3 miles / 4.8 km

Group Eastwood

This is the first in a planned series of dog friendly walks over the next few months. These walks are an additional activity to our walk programme, all other Glasgow Ramblers walks will continue to exclude dogs other than Assistance Dogs. This initial one will be jointly led by Frances A from Glasgow Ramblers and Audrey H from Eastwood Ramblers.

To link with the launch of the Magnificent 11 this short evening circular walk will be around Linn Park following part of the first stage of the Magnificent 11. Linn Park is very dog friendly and provides plenty of scope for all the things that dogs love doing, including safe swimming spots (for dogs).

We will meet at 6.20 for a 6.30 start beside the main Park Gates on Clarkston Road, follow the Magnificent 11 trail to Snuff Mill, Mary Queen of Scot’s Monument, the ancient woodland, and back down to the Iron Bridge finishing where we started on Clarkston Road.

Please let me know if you will be bringing a dog with you. Everyone with or without a dog is welcome! We will limit the number of dogs to around 6, at least for this first one, so there will be space for Ramblers who like dogs but don’t have one.

We will follow the Ramblers Dog Walking Code a common sense, ten-point guide which aims to ensure safe and happy walks with your dog, and to avoid causing problems for others.

Suggestions for future dog friendly walks would be very welcome. Ideas include another part of the Magnificent 11, perhaps the Cathkin Braes, Loch Thom, or a longer full day walk.

Please bring snacks and a drink, we will stop along way for a blether. Finish time probably around 8.15.

Additional notes

This is a circular walk

The Dog Walking Code can be found here https://www.ramblers.org.uk/advice/safety/dog-walkers.aspx

All participants must contact the Leader in advance by email, text or phone call, but not more than two weeks before the walk. They should provide the Leader with a mobile phone number so that, if necessary, they can be contacted on the day of the walk or earlier; this is helpful in case the walk has to be cancelled or arrangements changed at short notice.

Walkers should bear in mind the Covid guidelines as they apply on the day of the walk, including those for travelling by public transport; they should not come on the walk if they have any symptoms associated with the virus. Bring hand sanitiser, a face mask (in case you have to get close to someone), and a small first aid kit so that you can self treat if necessary.

Walkers should carry an "in case of emergency" card with contact details.

You’re welcome to join us on any of our walks to see if the Ramblers is for you. Then, once you’ve enjoyed the views, fun, exhilaration and good company, it’s just a case of becoming a member.

Do make sure you're fit enough and have the right footwear and clothing for the walk you want to do, though. You can contact the group or leader if in doubt.
