This is a circular walk
The walk is 5 miles and there are 4 stiles. There are many steps leading up to the monument. The route includes two ascents/descents which are fairly steep, so I would call this walk “moderate”. Bring sticks. There is a toilet at the start.
We climb up to the monument and then along a field edge and down a grassy slope past horses and a Golf Course to the River Wear. We continue along the riverside, through woods and fields, and then eventually up a slope back to the monument.
The café at Herrington Country Park is closed, however another café is available at the Nursery/Farm Shop which we will pass at the end of the walk.
If anybody wishes it we can have a one mile circuit of the country park at the end of the walk.
Hope to see you on the day.
