Moderate 11 miles / 17.7 km
This is a linear walk to the Halfway House pub near Brenchley. We walk back to Goudhurst along the same paths as we took in the morning.
There are some good views and sights along the way. There's not too much in the way of hills apart from a steep descent on leaving Goudhurst at the start and a corresponding climb back up on the return.
Those not wishing to eat at the pub should note that there is nowhere for you to have your picnic in the immediate vicinity. The road from the pub up to Brenchley is too risky to walk - it is narrow and busy, and without a footpath. There is a suitable spot on the morning's route about 600 yards before the pub. The plan is to drop picnickers off there and to provide a map so you can carry on to the pub.
The walk starts from the small, free car park and toilets in Balcombes Hill. If you are driving to Goudhurst via the A21 and the A262, turn right at the pond into Balcombes Hill. The CP really is small so car-share if you can, otherwise park in the local streets.
