Group name: Bristol
This group is a part of Avon Area.
Our activities include:
Groups aimed at people in their 40s, Path maintenance, Short and easy walks
Our groups help local people enjoy walking and protect the places we all love to walk. Most groups organise regular walks led by local experts – a great way to get outside, make new friends and discover how walking boosts your health and happiness. You’re very welcome to try walking with us, or to get involved in looking after paths and green spaces and opening up new places to explore.
The Bristol Group is one of the largest walking groups in the country offering about 300 walks each year to suit all preferences. Many of these walks are on Sundays, but there are also Saturday and midweek walks. Walks range from 5 to 8 miles in and around Bristol, 5 to 15 miles in the surrounding countryside of Gloucestershire, Somerset and Wiltshire, and 14+ miles of strenuous hillwalking in South Wales, the Cotswolds, the Mendips and the Quantocks. In addition there are evening walks (Tuesdays and Thursdays in Summer) together with some themed walks that we are gradually introducing.
Generally, on Sundays we meet in Bristol (A walks at Clifton Water Tower, B and C walks at Great George Street) for car sharing to the start of a walk. Our website gives more information about the Sunday meeting places. Wednesday walks frequently use public transport. The walks programme lists contact details of all leaders so that any queries can be discussed prior to the walk.
You don’t have to be a member to come on one of our walks, new members are always made welcome, after three walks, if you enjoy what we do, we would ask you to formally join the Ramblers.
You can see tips for newcomers on our website at
