Coronavirus update

The UK government roadmap for lifting lockdown means people in England can now walk together outside. Ramblers group walks and volunteer activities can also resume, following Covid-secure guidance. See Ramblers coronavirus advice and UK government guidelines

Illegal path closures

An illegal notice claiming a path had been closed due to coronavirus was reported last year in Tandridge district by a member. Similar illegal notices have been reported on a footpath in Pirbright parish (Guildford Borough) this month – April 2021. Landowners do not have the right to close public footpaths in this way. Only the highway authority can do this and there are legal procedures that it has to follow.

Surrey County Council has taken prompt action and has contacted the landowners concerned. If you come across such a notice anywhere on your walks, whether solitary or with a group, please do report it in the ways described here

Alleged path: St Johns Lye to St John's Church - have you used it?

Thanks to those members and non members who have confirmed their use of this path. Will anyone else who has used all or part it at any time please email Brian at info@wokingramblers.org and obtain a user evidence form. These will all be collated and sent to SCC in one bundle. See bottom of Footpath news page for more details.

About us

Woking Ramblers is a friendly group offering invigorating walks through stunning countryside in the western half of Surrey and sometimes, West Sussex, east Hampshire.

Each week, we typically walk 5–7 miles on any weekday morning — sometimes further.

Guests are encouraged to try a walk or two with no obligation, to enjoy the mental wellbeing and benefits of walking. For larger groups we generally have a back-marker, so there's no need to worry about being left behind!

Booking is not required for most walks although some exceptions may apply — please check specific walk details.

Experienced members lead walks although newer members are encouraged to lead too, with assistance from experienced leaders available. Members have the opportunity to attend popular free walk-leading courses along with peers from other Surrey Ramblers.

Some members enjoy our special working parties to help keep local footpaths suitable for walking. As well as helping us support the Ramblers mission, they are a lot of fun.

We occasionally arrange optional social events for members. All members are eligible to receive a quarterly eNewsletter via email.
