Overview

This is a circular walk starting from Clatford Oakcuts. We start by making our way through woods and across fields towards the village of Abbot’s Ann. There we will pause to visit the church of St Mary the Virgin and look for its large collection of  “virgins’ crowns”. We then press on to explore the unusual late-Iron Age hillfort of Bury Hill. After lunch we make our way back to our starting point via Red Rice and Dipden Bottom.

This is a picnic walk. Please bring drinks, snacks for a morning break and a picnic lunch, as required.

There is a village store in Abbot's Ann which will will pass before lunch if anyone needs extra supplies.

The walk is comparatively flat and there is only one climb (and descent) worth the mention, and that is not at all challenging. The first half of the walk is mainly on paths and tracks, the second half has more road walking but the lanes are none too busy.

There are no stiles.

Please let the leader know you are coming as we may set off early, if all known walkers have arrived.
