The morning walk of 5.7 miles approx is a circular walk covering an area to the Southeast of Owslebury, approaching Upham then returning via Baybridge. There are some lovely viewpoints along the route and a rich variety of terrain. The leaves are (or were) in good colour. There is one section with 4 stiles on a steep downhill open path and a further 2 stiles elsewhere. There are 3 notable but short inclines. It would be therefore be appropriate to bring poles if you use them.
The optional afternoon circular walk of 2.3 miles approx takes us to the West, heading close to the Marwell Zoo park before returning via Water Lane.
For both walks, there are several options at certain points and the final route will be decided on the day depending on recent weather. The distances quoted are therefore approximate but a good guide.
If there has been a lot of rain prior to the walk, then some paths may well be muddy, but on the recce they were all passable relatively easily. There are no facilities on route, but plenty of woodland.
The walk is unsuitable for dogs due to some stiles not having gaps for dogs.
We meet at the Ship Inn on Whites Hill in Owslebury, postcode SO21 1LT. Please park in the rear of the two parts of the car park. For those who wish to take a picnic, there is parking outside the pub and along the village road.
The pub require food orders by Tuesday, so your selection needs to be made by midday at latest on the 11th. (The leader will send you menus once you have successfully registered for the walk). Please note that the pub cannot guarantee that the toilets will be available before the walk.
