The St James' Way is a walking route which forms part of the ancient pilgrimage route of 'Camino de Santiago'. The Camino runs from Reading to Southampton for its English leg, and then from there follows a network of ancient pilgrim routes to Santiago de Compostela in North-West Spain.
We meet as a group at Winchester Railway Station outside the ticket barriers on the northbound side (platform 1). Please be in good time to purchase your ticket(s) in order for our group to catch the 09.33 train from Winchester to Reading. (note : £15.75 Any time day return with Senior Railcard).
Our ramble begins at Reading station then onwards through Forbury Gardens Park and the impressive Abbey Ruins. We continue along the River Kennet as we leave Reading, before joining the Kennet and Avon Canal which we will follow until we reach our lunch stop, ending the first leg of ‘The St James’ Way’, at the pub ‘The Cunning Man’.
After lunch you will be pleased to learn that we will catch the bus (the bus stop is just outside the pub) back to Reading Station where we will board the 14.52 train back to Winchester arriving at 15.26. Please bring your bus pass, if you have one.
Booking is essential. Please will you let me know if you would like to come along by the end of Tuesday 11 November, using the email link.
