Overview

Meet at KCP at 9.30 a.m. and car-share to Abbotsford visitor centre car-park (parking charge £2.00). Alternatively, meet at Abbotsford at 10:15 a.m.

Cross the B6360 and follow the Borders Abbey Way (BAW) gently uphill for about 0.5 miles. Leave the BAW  and continue along the quiet road past Darnick Community Woodlands, and through the subway to the Borders General Hospital. Pass the hospital entrance, and follow the road to Rhymer's Glen and onward to Cauldshiels Loch. Follow the path along the lochside and return to Abbotsford via the BAW..

The route is on quiet roads, grassy paths (likely to be muddy) and the lochside path through woodlands, with mud, tree roots and a little paddling in the loch after heavy rain.
