A moderate walk to see the Aira Force waterfall and the views from Gowbarrow Fell. Aira Force can be a thunderous roar of a waterfall. We will pass through woodland with lush green ferns and evergreen specimen conifers that tower over open glades. Then, emerge from the confines of the gorge to enjoy expansive views over Ullswater from the summit of Gowbarrow. The path initially follows the stream and winds through the woodland, before dropping down to a stone bridge. The walk is on well surfaced paths but beyond the Glade the path becomes narrower with a steep drop to one side and flights of steps to negotiate. Once out on the open fell, the path is clear but can be muddy in places.
There is a small toilet block close to the main car park entrance which is open twenty four hours. A tea room serves hot and cold drinks, light bites and sweet treats with indoor and outdoor seating. It is advisable to bring a packed lunch for the walk. Please text Elwyn on 07746788921 if you are coming on the walk
