From the village we follow Pennyunk Lane to Monsal Head. Just before Monsal Head, we turn sharp left and descend through the woods on the east side of the Wye Valley to cross the river by a footbridge then continue on the path to reach the A6. After crossing the road it is a steady ascent into Deep Dale. As soon as we enter the Dale we take the first path on the left on a steep ascent onto the plateau then continue over fields to Sheldon. We can have lunch in the village. We pass through the village and after the last house, we take a path on the left, then fork right to descend along the side of Great Shacklow Wood. This brings us back to the A6, it is about 200yds along the pavement before we cross by Sheepwash Bridge to return to the CP.
Mainly moderate but the two main climbs are a bit strenuous.
Walkers from other groups are always welcome, as are non-members wanting to sample walking with our friendly group of ramblers. Just turn up and make yourself known to the walk leader.
Please make sure you have an ICE (in Case of Emergency) card on you when out walking – you know it makes sense - if you don’t have one then ask the walk leader for one before the walk starts.
