Overview

Having recced this walk after a particularly wet week in December and not getting wet feet, I’m (fairly) confident this will be a dryish (but not completely mud free) walk. From the car park we will meander through Deerleap Inclosure and across the railway line to Fullford Bog. We will, carefully, cross the busy Southampton Road to complete a circuit through mixed woodland on firm tracks and back to Ashurst. For those requiring extra sustenance the nearby Merretts Cafe provides lovely coffee, homemade cakes and a log fire - what better way to finish a winter walk? Please bring refreshments for coffee and lunch stops. Please make sure your ICE (in case of emergency) card is in your bag. If you don’t have one, speak to the walk leader. If you are not a regular walker with the Eastleigh group please introduce yourself to the walk leader or contact them via the email link above.

There are two options for parking near the start of this route. 1) The car park next to the Happy Cheese pub. This is a free car park, but quite small make sure you arrive early in case you have to use the alternatives. 2) The Ashurst Railway Station car park is free at the weekend; this is located just over the railway bridge from the Happy Cheese and a short walk from the southbound platform (i.e. from the car park, cross the tracks on the pedestrian bridge).
