Walking in and around Eastleigh
Our walks explore the history and wide variety of landscapes of Hampshire; the coast and the South Downs, the New Forest and famous rivers. We also visit neighbouring counties for walks further afield and try to have one group walking holiday elsewhere in the UK each year.
We walk Thursdays (a short walk of 5-7 miles) and on Saturday and Sunday (longer walks up to 11 miles). Our Thursday walks often have a cafe stop but the weekend walks have a picnic lunch taking in one of the excellent views our area has to offer. Our walks range from leisurely to moderate, with the occasional strenuous challenge.
We have an occasional walking event following the local National Trails from start to finish in a series of weekly walks on Wednesdays. It’s open to all Group Members. There are also residential trips in September 2023, walking the second half of the Cotswolds Way and a weekend on the Isle of Wight. More information can be found on our local webpage and in our walks programme
Our walking group
Our group has been walking for over 30 years and our experienced leaders plan walks to suit all interests, visiting historical sites, gardens and other places of interest. As a new member, you’ll be made to feel very welcome and you’ll find that you are quickly absorbed into the group!
Our social activities include regular dinner outings, skittles/bowling evenings and seasonal events. We also work to protect the pathways and countryside we use so, from time to time, we organize a group of willing members to undertake practical path work such as rebuilding stiles, footpath maintenance and replacing route markers.
If you are new to walking, try one of our shorter walks first. You may be surprised how quickly your fitness and feeling of well-being increases once you step out regularly. No expensive equipment is needed - just strong non-slip boots or shoes, a waterproof jacket, and a love of the outdoors.
