In poetic diction autumn is the mellower season where the air is cooler and the mornings darker. It's a time for letting in and letting go - a time to clear out the old and make way for the new. Nothing symbolizes this transformation better than the beautiful profusion of autumn colours - from scarlet red to burnt orange and from russet to gamboge transparent yellow. Whatever the palette the striking symbolism is a connection with nature.
On this circular walk we hope to see these colours. It is mainly through woodland beginning from the White Down car park in White Down Lane and passing through Denbies Hillside, Ranmore Common, Yewtree Farm on the Polesden Estate, and Stars Wood before returning to the car park.
