With majestic scenery throughout on this circular walk, we head sharply uphill east, past the golf course through Manners Wood, to reach the high plateau of Calton Pastures with glorious views of the Bakewell valley below and towards the Chatsworth estate to our left, where the Hunting Tower and Russian Cottage are both clearly visible. The route on good terrain heads south east through Rowsleymoor Wood, descending via the woods of Bouns Corner towards the charming village of Rowsley where lunch will be taken on the picnic benches at the Peak Village Shopping Centre, with toilets available on site. Continuing gently uphill again now, alongside Aaron Hill Plantation, we pass Coombs Farm as we descend north west to join the Monsal Trail overlooking Bakewell ahead of us and below, to take us directly back to the car park via the hamlet of Brooklands. The walk involves over 1,200 ft. of ascent, all gradual, but gives us delightful views of the Peak District landscape at its best.
PLEASE ASSEMBLE IN FRONT OF THE FARMER'S FEAST CAFE AT THE AGRICULTURAL CENTRE, AT THE TOP OF THE LONG STAY CAR PARK, ACCESSED FROM SMITH'S LANE. From the front of the car park head right over the footbridge, and the Centre and Cafe will be immediately ahead on your left.
N.B: 20p is needed to spend a penny in the public toilets on Granby Road !!
