This is a delightfully entertaining walk. Starting from the pretty village of Bardon Mill we will follow the lane north to Westwood Cottages then walk up the Chainley Burn valley with its ancient mine workings. Our path then skirts the Roman Fort of Vindolanda before we join a quiet lane which leads to the 200-year-old Crindledikes Lime Kiln. Our last incline brings us to the Long Stone where we will enjoy spectacular views of the Upper Tyne Valley and the Roman Fort. Our return leg crosses the moor to the village of Thorngrafton before we rejoin the lane that takes us back to Bardon Mill. Moderate grade.
Terrain: Paths include tarmac lanes, gravel tracks and fell paths. Elevation. As we climb approx. 100 metres (328 feet) there will be plenty of rest stops.
Refreshments: There will be a lunch stop enroute. Theres a café and a public house in Bardon Mill for refreshments after the walk.
