Overview

The walk starts at Barton Marina which was opened in 2001 and is now home to 300 narrow boats. It continues past St James Church in Barton-Under-Needwood. The church was founded by Dr John Taylor (chaplain to Henry VIII) a native of the village. We pass through sections of Needwood forest, stopping for lunch in the village of Tattenhill. We then pass Battlestead Hill, which is reported to be the site of a bloody battle between the Angles and Danes, and then proceed to Branston Water Park. Finally, we return along the Trent and Mersey Canal. Joint walk with Sandwell Ramblers and Wolverhampton Ramblers.
