This is a moderate 8.9 mile walk from Birchover Quarry car park. It’s a free public car park next to the quarry staff car park. The walk starts by going over Stanton Moor passing the Nine Ladies stone circle. We continue through Stanton in the Peak and up to Haddon Plantation. After a short stretch along Lathkill Dale to Alport we join Bradford Dale and continue along the Limestone Trail to Robin Hood’s Stride and back to Birchover. There are a couple of pubs in Birchover if anyone wants to use them very near (0.36 mile) the end of the walk but we will need a packed lunch for the walk.
Whichever direction you approach Birchover from don’t go up Birchover Lane. It’s a narrow lane from the B5057 between Elton and Winster and signed as 'unsuitable for motor vehicles' but some satnavs may try to send you up it. Instead at the junction with the B5056 continue north on the B5056 and go into Birchover on 'The Mires' signed Birchover and 'The Druid Inn'. Continue through the village and shortly after the road bends uphill to the left the car park is on the left.
Walkers from other groups are always welcome, as are non-members wanting to sample walking with our friendly group of ramblers. Just turn up and make yourself known to the walk leader.
Please make sure you have an ICE (in Case of Emergency) card on you when out walking – you know it makes sense - if you don’t have one then ask the walk leader for one before the walk starts.
On our walks, we regret no dogs please UNLESS the walk is described as DOG FRIENDLY.
