Explore the Chelmer canal as it runs into Heybridge Basin then stroll the Blackwater estuary seawall together with some cross field paths, as we make our way to The Chequers pub in Goldhanger village for a brief stop. An 8-mile walk on mainly level terrain in a figure-of-eight. We stop for a short break around 12 noon at a timber-framed, 14th century smugglers' inn with modern facilities at the 4 mile (halfway) point. An optional observation challenge is offered, as we then progress through the quaint village. The estuary seawall path is exposed. Bring water, snacks, sunhat and suitable clothing for the weather forecast. Meeting point is in the Daisy Meadows car park at 10.30am. Parking charges apply and it is recommended you pay the fixed full day rate to enjoy both the 8-mile walk, sweeping estuary views with possible Thames sailing barge sightings and an optional afternoon tea at Heybridge Basin.
