From the car park, we head up on Ham Link road, climbing up Burrington Ham to continue to Beacon Batch. Turning east then north, the walk descends to the village of Blagdon and continues to the next village Ubley, enjoying lovely views of the lake/reservoir, weather permitting. Turning uphill from the village through Ubley Wood, and after about a mile of road walking, we reach the meandering paths of Velvet Bottom. Near the end of VB where it meets West Mendip Way, we climb up a hill heading towards Beacon Batch and then descend back to the cars. The total ascent is slightly over 2000 feet. It a gentle walk with two distinct and contrasting landscapes.
