Come join us for a walk in the moors with fine views and hopefully a chance to see the heather in full flower.
We will leave the car park on Blakey Ridge and follow the road past the Lion Inn pub. Shortly after we head across the moors, following the Esk valley path to Fat Betty where there are expansive views all round.
From there we continue across the moors and gradually descend through farmland into Westerdale, where there are toilets and we will also be stopping for lunch by the village hall.
Afterwards, we will head out of the village on a minor road and then pick up the Esk valley path again as we head up the valley and back onto the moors. As we approach the top we will pick up the old railway track for the final stretch back to the car park.
🅿️ Free car park at Blakey Bank Top, on Blakey Ridge at the turning for Church Houses, about half a mile south of the Lion Inn, YO62 7LQ – please consider car-sharing where possible
🚻 There are toilets in Westerdale, where we will be stopping for lunch
🍺 After the walk we can head to the Lion Inn for a drink
🐶 Dogs welcome but we ask for them to be kept on a lead on moorland and in any fields which have livestock
⚠️ Some of the moorland paths can become boggy after rain so walking boots are recommended, and the moors around Blakey Ridge are exposed so please come prepared with extra layers
🥪 You will need to bring a packed lunch
