A walk with David in the Mugginton, Mercaston area. 5 miles exactly. The walk is mostly over rolling country side on good clear paths, except for about a half mile stretch near to Mugginton. Here the path is bounded by tall grass and other foliage encroaching on to it. The one and only steep climb, is the short path up into Mugginton Churchyard. Four stiles. Please note that there is one particular narrow stone squeeze, so any dogs need to be small, agile or liftable to get through. There is about a quarter of a mile on a very minor road. Morning break after 2.4 miles at Mugginton Church. Sheep and Goats in some fields so dogs on leads please.
Risk assessment
The first hazard is to cross over the very busy A52 from the car park, good sight lines, but take care and be patient We will re-cross it by Pelican crossing on our return. Four wooden stiles in total, slippery if wet. Beware of tree roots in all woodland areas, tripping hazard. Three sleeper stile footbridges, slippery if wet. As mentioned, some of the route is through areas where foliage is encroaching on the path, this may be uncomfortable for some, if wet please come prepared. New bramble growth on a few of the grass covered paths, tripping hazard if not noticed, take care. Some minor road walking, keep right if traffic approaches.
