This walk showcases some of the best scenery in the southern Yorkshire Wolds. We start from the historic and picturesque Brantingham Church up a steep path and a minor road, designed the get the circulation going (we will take this at a steady pace with rests as needed). Towards the top of the hill we take a turn onto a level footpath through woods towards Elloughton Dale and have a chance to get our breath back. At Elloughton Dale we have a steep descent followed by a steep ascent up the other side of the Dale, rewarded at the top by a magnificent view over the River Humber. We continue on the route of the High Hunsley Circuit before joining the Wolds Way down Welton Dale, passing the Raikes Family Mausoleum (where years ago local youths are said to have stolen the skull of wealthy Hull banker, Robert Raikes, as part of a prank). Just beyond the Mill Pond at the bottom of the Dale, we continue the theme of uphill and down dale by looping back up to join the route of the Beverley 20 and the Wolds Way. At Wauldby Dam we add to the interest of the walk by taking a detour via Nut Wood, before returning to Turtle Hill and then back to Brantingham via the Wolds Way.
This walk is locally rated as Moderate Plus and involves three fairly steep uphill and downhill sections, where walking poles may be helpful.
We will pace the walk to ensure slower walkers and those who need to take their time up hills, can comfortably keep up with the group.
Regrettably no dogs allowed, except assistance dogs by prior agreement with the walk leader.
