A linear walk from Burnt Yates to Pateley Bridge, walking on sections of the Nidderdale Way and passing through the natural spectacle of Brimham Rocks with its giant rock formations. This walk passes through the rolling landscape of the Yorkshire Dales with some lovely elevated views of the surrounding countryside.
We pass through serene Shaw Mills, which was one of Nidderdale's industrial villages, and some lovely countryside on the way to Brimham Rocks, where we can marvel at the rock formations. Hundreds of thousands of years of ice, rain and wind have combined to create these weird and wonderful shapes. As a bonus the visitor centre is a place to top up our water bottles and use the toilet facilities.
From Brimham Rocks there is a steep and rough descent down to Fell Beck before re-joining the Nidderdale Way. This part of the walk to Pateley Bridge provides spectacular views of pastoral Nidderdale. We visit the roofless ruin of St Mary's Church which dates from the 13th century and enjoys a tranquil and peaceful position at the top of a hill with fine views.
The final part of the walk to Pateley Bridge is along the 'Panorama Walk' a popular scenic walk for the parasoled stroller in the late 19th century
