A lovely circular walk along the canal and river from Brecon to Llanfrynach, with superb views across the Usk valley towards the Beacons.
The first part is along the towpath from the canal basin, a level gravel track with Brynich Lock and the aqueduct over the River Usk being highlights. For anyone wanting a shorter walk, this is a good place to turn back (about 4 miles altogether).
The route then continues along the canal past a marina to Storehouse Bridge, where we turn west to the village of Llanfrynach with its pretty church. We cross fields, passing Abercynrig Mill and going under the A40 on the route back along the river towards Brecon. We cross the river at the main bridge past Christ College then return to the start.
It's a fairly easy walk along the canal path, with some mud likely. The fields and riverside are likely to be worse underfoot, so walking poles will help.
