This walk takes to the heights of the South Downs the moderate way. After a steady climb through the Brighton suburbs and out onto green hills, the route reaches the ridge line and then follows it, on a clear day giving sweeping views across the Sussex countryside and out to sea. It keeps the elevation until the steady descent to the village of Rodmell (where Monk's House was once home to Virginia Woolf). From there, the meanders of the River Ouse unfurl the way to Lewes.
Please bring packed lunch, pub stop at end of walk.
Terrain: Hills, fields, riverbank.
Travel: Take 9:58 from London Victoria (10:05 Clapham Junction, 10:17 East Croydon), change at Brighton (arr. 11:08, dep. 11:17), arr. Moulsecoomb 11:23.
