Overview

A lovely, leisurely circular walk via the Basingstoke Canal and on through woodland (possibly muddy in parts) with (hopefully) bluebells. We pass open farmland with alpacas and goats and continue with views over pastures and paddocks of horses to the pretty village of Pirbright with its Green and pond where you can sit and enjoy watching the wildlife while eating your picnic lunch. There are 2 pubs and a yurt café nearby for refreshments. A visit to the lovely historic church of St Michael where Henry Morton Stanley of “Dr Livingstone, I presume?” fame is buried. We return via heath and woods passing through the beautifully laid out Brookwood Military Cemetery (largest in the country) on route back to the station. Estimated finish time c 15.30
