Overview

A seven mile walk along the towpath. Much of the path is covered in tarmac and people can walk two abreast. There is bird life and a variety of boats on the canal, and there are flowers and bushes by the towpath. We pass interesting buildings and woodland and parkland. We may stop for coffee at a pleasant pub 100 yards from the canal after two miles of walking. We visit a beautiful Sikh gurdwara in Southall near the canal. For this visit we each wear a bandana or tie a napkin over our heads, and we remove our shoes to visit the inner sanctum. You might like to bring some prepacked shop food (fruit, veg, - most Sikhs are vegetarian) to donate to the kitchen at the gurdwara, and have your lunch there.
Alternatively, bring your lunch and something to sit on at the side of the canal. Toilets are available at the Gurdwara and at the pub. Food and drinks can also be bought in Southall. To allow time for the visit to the Gurdwara and descriptions of points of interest, this walk is likely to take about five hours.
