We will explore some of historic places in the Ironbridge Gorge. Starting in Broseley, one of Shropshires earliest mining areas for coal and clay. We descend to Jackfield, following a bridleway, which is home of the Tile Museum. Turn west, to walk along the River Severn to the Ironbridge and continue on to Benthall Wood , where we climb through the wood towards Benthall Hall, NT property. Returning into Broseley through `the Jitties`, the name given to a maze of narrow lanes and passageways which link together the the old squatters cottages. Where the miners who came looking for work in 16 century in this booming area, could build a hearth and a chimney in a day to claim a patch of land to build a cottage. Broseley is full of historic houses and properties linked to this period and the Industrial Revolution taking place in the Ironbridge Gorge.
