Starting in Ellesmere, the walk will take us around part of the main mere, up through farmland to the village of Welshampton, then along a quiet lane to the Llangollen canal. We will follow the towpath past Cole Mere and Blake Mere, through the Ellesmere Tunnel, and back to the starting point.
The walk is mostly on the flat, although there is some gentle ascending from the shore of the main mere to Welshampton. The second half of the walk is along the canal towpath and, unsurprisingly, completely level.
There is little if any shade until we reach the canal, after which there are patches. There is lots of shade in the tunnel, for which you might want to use your mobile phone light to guide your way.
The plan is for a single stop for coffee and/or lunch, although periodic drink stops will be added if the weather is hot and sunny.
There are no toilets at the starting car park; they are available in the town, eg Cross Street Car Park.
