This 5.1 mile circular walk starts from the Bury Down car park on the Ridgeway. We follow the Ridgeway west for just over a mile, then turn left to follow a track south-eastwards over Sheep Down, descending gradually into West Ilsley. After pausing for a mid-walk break by the village pond, we continue through the village, before embarking on the gentle ascent back up to the Ridgeway along the side of Hodcott Down. From here it is only half a mile back to the cars. There are excellent views throughout the walk, and no stiles.
There are likely to be a few muddy or puddly bits, but in general underfoot conditions are pretty good. Please be aware of the weather forecast on the day and dress accordingly. Please bring refreshments for the mid-walk break. Please park in the car park at Bury Down, where the Ridgeway crosses Bury Lane. You can park either side of the road.
